Electro Acupuncture

Reset your body

Electro Acupuncture is a form of therapy that combines acupuncture and electro therapy to reduce the firing rate of the nerves responsible for relaying pain signals to the conscious part of the brain. Chronic pain is classified as pain which last for 3 months or more and in these circumstances there is often a reflex established which results in a constant pain signal which remains intact long after the original cause has either healed or been treated. Many people are left with neurogenic pain resulting from spinal trauma even after the trauma has been resolved and this signal can still be active years and even decades after the original onset.

The treatment will begin with a case history, this is a conversation that will help determine the cause of pain and anything that will contribute to your progress. It is important to note that this treatment is contraindicated for anyone with any electrical implants such as pacemakers. Once the case history is complete we may need to conduct some tests to assess what parts of the body are functional and what parts need help, then treatment will begin.

Acupuncture needles will be inserted into the relevant body parts - the positions and number of needles is unique to the individual and will be explained prior to them being placed. Once the needles are placed, electrodes are clipped onto the needles and the treatment begins, the waveform and intensity are unique to the individual however they start very gently and are constantly monitored throughout the procedure. Typically if feels like a soft vibration which may or may not evoke muscle fasciculation which is a kind of involuntary muscle twitch.

It is important to note that this treatment modality is most effective when the physical body is working optimally so we highly recommend that if you have not attended the clinic previously, you book in for “Manual Therapy” so that we can assess your musculoskeletal form and make any corrections prior to treatment.
